PURPOSE/SCOPE

To act as Know2Grow research lead to Ohlde Seed Farms through the organizing, packaging, planting, and maintenance of research and demonstration plots during the growing season. To continue to build the Know2Grow Research Program as one of the largest and most trusted source of information.


RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Planning and Preparation of Research Plots

  • Create and conduct agronomic field experiment focused towards helping farmers with the issues they face.
  • Assist with seed counting efforts, order supplies as needed.
  • Assist and fill planter boxes.
  • Help with calibrating all equipment to include planter, sprayer, scales, combine.

2. Planting, note taking, and plot maintenance

  • Load, transport, and unload equipment.
  • Work directly with the Know2Grow Research Associate on planting plots in a timely manner.
  • Label testing blocks according to test.
  • Take notes including emergence, stand, flowering, height, & maturity.
  • Spray/Hand weed as needed.
  • Provide plot maintenance to include tillage, weeding, etc.
  • Erect plot signs.

3. Hybrid/Variety Evaluation

  • Assist in new product development for the Ohlde product line-up
  • Take notes on critical agronomic and plant characteristics.

4. Know2Grow Research Program

  • Continue to grow the research program with other Ag partners that need data on seed, seed treatments, or chemical.

5. Harvest

  • Load, transport, and unload equipment.
  • Harvest plots in timely manner.
  • Provide basic maintenance on planter, sprayer, combine, tractor.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/TRAINING

2 year degree in Agronomy/Crop Production or equivalent experience


EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Farm equipment experience, including tractor and combine
  • Must be able to lift 50+ pounds
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
